Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary is located about 1.5hours away by car from the centre of Da Nang or Hoi An. It is listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Vietnam. The structures were built between the 4th and 13th century which was a part of the Champa Kingdom shaped by the art and culture of Hinduism.
The conservation of the monuments were preserved in the early 20th century when they were discovered by French archaeologists. Many of the towers were damaged during World War II but work was carried out on what was left and many towers are still preserved and well maintained until today.
Being at this site gave me a sense of calmness and I was in awe of what was still preserved till this day. If you are visiting Da Nang or Hoi An I definitely think that My Son Sanctuary is a place worth visiting. But make sure you go with a tour guide to learn about the history of this place otherwise it will just be another landmark with no meaning behind it. It’s not often that you get to see structures as old as this!
